New Year Sesshin, Felsentor

Материал из Buddha World.

27. Dec - 01. Jan 2012 - The New Year Sesshin in the small Zen-Buddhist inspired community Felsentor, Switzerland.

In this New Year’s Sesshin, we will turn our hearts toward cultivating kindness and compassion both for others and ourselves. Beginning a New Year offers us the particular opportunity to look again at our lives, finding our composure exactly in the bodies and minds that we have. We will end our Sesshin by sitting until midnight, striking the Bonsho (temple bell) 108 times, and building a bonfire; we will celebrate our lives together.

Our daily schedule will consist of 8-10 periods of Zazen (sitting meditation), a Dharma Talk, a Guided Meditation, and Samu (meditative work). There will be opportunities for group discussions, as well as individual interviews (dokusan) with the teacher.

This course includes approximately one hour per day work in the house or gardens.

Begins: Tuesday, 6.15 PM

Ends: Sunday, 10.00 AM

CAROLYN ATKINSON, Ph.D. has been practicing Buddhist meditation for 35 years. Her Zen teacher was the late Kobun Chino Otogawa Roshi. She received Dharma Transmission through him and his lineage. She is the Head Teacher at Everyday Dharma Zen Center in Santa Cruz, California. She has also studied in the Vipassana tradition. Her teaching focuses on the relationship between meditation practice and daily householder life. She is the author of the book Quiet Mind, Open Heart (2008). Her new book, A Light in the Mind: Living Your Life Just As It Is (2010), will provide the core teachings for this New Year’s Sesshin. She trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco and in China, and practiced acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for twenty years. She is the mother of two grown sons.

Felsentor (the rock gate) is located on the car-free Mount Rigi, perched 2400 feet above Lake Lucerne surrounded by pastures and forests with a view of the high Alps. The Felsentor Foundation was created in 1999 with the intention of establishing at this auspicious spot a place for retreats where one can meet oneself, the other, nature, the ultimate.

We are a small Zen-Buddhist inspired community which finds guidance in the meditative and contemplative traditions of all religions. In addition to organizing workshops and seminars, we are in the process of establishing a center for animal rights with an animal sanctuary. During the summer months, we run a small vegetarian restaurant and cultivate a large vegetable and flower garden. Felsentor offers a wide range of courses and retreats for people to investigate the Great Matter and/or to acquire and deepen their skills in meditation and body awareness.
